Wheel of Excellence
The first of its kind in South Africa, the Wheel of Excellence is an exclusive attraction for the V&A Waterfront during and after the World Cup 2010. At 50m high, it is a fully illuminated giant observation wheel featuring 36 fully enclosed luxury cabins that will treat visitors to a unique sightseeing opportunity:
• Ticket prices to the Wheel of Excellence cost R70 per person and can be purchased at the Wheel of Excellence site.
• Where: The Wheel of Excellence will be exclusively located at the Canal Site, opposite the Caltex garage. It is easily accessible from the Coen Steytler entrance to the V&A Waterfront.
• Capacity: The 36 luxury cabins feature glass floors, air conditioning and LED lighting and it can accommodate a load capacity of 288 persons per ride (eight people per cabin).
• To ensure passenger safety during windy conditions, The Wheel of Excellence is equipped with two types of ballast tanks.
• This type and size of wheel is a first for Cape Town and South Africa and will be fully operational from 8 June 2010. It will remain at the V&A Waterfront for an extended period post-World Cup.
• The Wheel of Excellence is manufactured and operated to the highest standards and is located in major cities and countries around the world including the USA, Australia, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Malaysia, France and Japan.
• The Wheel of Excellence will offer visitors a bird’s-eye view of the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town Stadium, Robben Island, Table Mountain, the City and Paarl mountains.
• VIP cabins, including champagne and canapés, are available on request as is wheel chair access.
