FIFA FanWalk
The 2.6 km FIFA Fan Walk is a pedestrian link along Darling, Strand, Adderley, Riebeek and Waterkant streets, through to Somerset Road, with dedicated pedestrian paths across Buitengracht St and Western Boulevard and Public Squares at St Andrews and the Stadium Forecourt within the Green Point Urban Park.
This route, which links directly to a vibrant night-time economy well-served by pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels, connects the Cape Town Stadium to the Fan Fest and the transport hub on the Grand Parade, with the Cape Town Station en-route – following the traditional Minstrels Carnival route. The route will be abuzz with local street theatre and street vending activities.
The Fan Walk will only be in place on the eight Cape Town match days.
A new pedestrian bridge has been constructed across the inbound traffic at the intersection of Coen Steytler Avenue across Buitengracht.
Improvements along Somerset Road will provide separate pedestrian and bicycle lanes along the northern (sea) side of Somerset Road from Alfred Street to Three Anchor Bay Road and on the eastern side of Three Anchor Bay Road from Somerset Road to Beach Road. There will no longer be on-street parking on Somerset Road between Ebenezer Road at the Green Point Traffic Department to Chiappini Street, and only one lane of traffic in each direction along Somerset Road.
