The legacy of 2010 in Cape Town ranges from new roads, to new public transport services to the new Stadium. We’re also hoping that the world will gain completely new perspectives of Cape Town, the Western Cape and South Africa, including our beautiful landscapes, our friendly people, our dynamic and exciting society – and that this will lead to increased tourism and investment.

WHERE IS THE MEDIA CENTRE LOCATED?

The V&A Waterfront World Media & Legacy Centre is based at Portswood House in the heart of the V&A Waterfront, up the stairs above Ulundi parking garage and across the pedestrian walkway from Ferryman’s Tavern. It has satellite centres in Granger Bay and the Clock Tower Precinct, within easy walking distance of Portswood House. The Waterfront itself is located between Cape Town’s city centre and the new Cape Town Stadium.

WHO CAN USE THE WORLD MEDIA & LEGACY CENTRE?

The World Media & Legacy Centre is available to media and business visitors to Cape Town throughout 2010. Clients include Corporates and Event Sponsors, Football Associations and Federations, Broadcasters, Print Media and Internet Publications.

HOW MUCH IS IT TO REGISTER?

Registration for the Media and Legacy Centre is free. Services offered by the centre are available at affordable commercial rates.

HOW MANY MEDIA CAN BE ACCOMMODATED?

One of the main thrusts of our activities is to get people out and about; experiencing the best Cape Town has to offer. We’re not expecting everyone at one time, and we’re not expecting people to spend more than a few hours or so each day either. In this way, we expect to maintain through-flow of journalists etc.

HOW MANY SERVICES, PRODUCTS ARE THERE TO HIRE?

Essentially we are offering turn-key solutions to every single enquiry. What we’re offering is service based – we are bringing the best skills and experience in Cape Town to the table, and these are people who can source absolutely anything for a media production of any size.

So if you want to take a guide and a driver and do a photo shoot in Khayelitsha, edit those pictures digitally and upload them via the net, we can service that. If you want to organise a press conference for 200 people and host a party for them afterwards, we can service that. If you want to broadcast live to camera in the Waterfront in a fully equipped studio, or if you want to use your own camera, edit the recording, and upload via the Internet, we can service that. If you want to shoot the entire Cool Britannia Festival for a month, including crew and equipment, we can service that. In short, the entire production base of Cape Town for photographic and a/v production is available through our centre via informed and connected people.

HOW DOES SOMEONE BOOK EQUIPMENT FOR A CERTAIN DAY AND TIME?

Please call 021 408 7604 or complete our enquiries / booking form on the site. Enquiries are directed to the relevant service provider partner, who will revert back to you with info, pricing and book it accordingly.

HOW WILL THE BOOKING PROCESS BE MANAGED?

We will have a central management oversight to ensure that all enquiries are answered, but each separate business partner manages their own booking process. What’s more, the partners will cross-refer to each other should there be enquiries that fall out side their ambit – e.g. You’re here to book some time on a hot desk, but you want to fly to PE for the Georgia / Serbia game, we’ll cross-refer you between our hot desk provider and our travel coordinator.

HOW DO MEDIA PAY FOR USE OF EQUIPMENT / SPACE / SERVICES?

Media pay-as-they-go with each service provider. We’ve limited the numbers of entry points, to eliminate confusion and streamline the process. Cash only for payments under R1000, and internet bank transfers are preferred.

WHAT ARE THE RATES?

Every service enquiry is personally tailored; rates are at market value. Certain factors (e.g. Lead time, availability, scope) will be considered. Rate cards are provided for consumables and other products.

WHEN MEDIA ARRIVE TO COLLECT EQUIPMENT / TAKE UP THEIR SPACE, HOW IS THIS MANAGED?

When media arrive, they will come to a reception desk. From there they will be directed to engage with the service provider that meets their needs.

Access to the hot desks will be on a first come first served basis, daily.

HOW MANY HOURS / DAYS CAN ONE JOURNALIST BOOK A HOT DESK FOR?

Journalists pay for the minutes they use, as they use them, so they can stay online for as long as they choose. There is a separate upload point for large files transfers.

WILL THE MEDIA RECEIVE ANY MEDIA PACKS – LANYARDS, ACCESS CODES, ETC – WHEN THEY ARRIVE?

Yes, media will be identified with a media pass and a lanyard. Media opting for our Champions Pass premier services bundle will receive an additional pass for quick identification amongst participating V&A Waterfront restaurant, bar and other popular visitor establishments.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A JOURNALIST ARRIVES IN CAPE TOWN AND WANTS TO BOOK SPACE WHEN THEY ARRIVE? IS THIS POSSIBLE?

Yes, we’re taking enquiries already and will continue to until after tournament completion.

IS THE BOOKING SYSTEM A FIRST COME FIRST SERVED BASIS?
